// The Biggest Mistake Founders Make
Numbers: A Study Over 30 Hours
655 - The number of people who followed me after someone wrote a post stating I am an investor.
46+ - The amount of DMs received ("+" is because there was back and forth with many of them)
39 - The number of people asking me for money.
30 - The amount of hours after the post.
3 - The number of calls booked on hubble.
0 - The number of cold pitches that met my thesis.
0 - The number of people who actually looked at my thesis (the first line in my bio and prominently featured on my website) before DMing me.
Takeaway:
In 30 hours, 39 people asked me for something I would never say "yes" to.
This happenstance post has inadvertently proved my theory that founders' biggest mistake is reaching out to investors who are not a match.
So, PLEASE, I beg of you, LOOK AT AN INVESTOR'S THESIS BEFORE WASTING YOUR TIME.
-- Yes, a copy-and-paste is a waste of your time.
-- Yes, "maybe it's changed/not updated/they'll be interested anyway" is a waste of your time.
-- Yes, "what's the harm in trying" is a waste of your time.
Save yourself the no.
And save investors’ time.
